Ernest Lawrence 1937 - 2009

The many friends of Ernest Lawrence will be saddened to hear that Ernest passed away peacefully on August 26th. Ernest who has been living in France for the past number of years had a long and close association with the early days of canoeing in Ireland.

The Irish Canoe Union would like to extend its sincerest condolences to Ernest's family.

There will be a Service of Thanksgiving on Monday, September 7th at 3:00 pm in St. Andrew's Parish Church, Malahide, Co. Dublin. Drinks, stories and memories afterwards in Malahide Yacht Club. Please donate to the RNLI instead of flowers.

I met Ernest Lawerence whilst producing a film called "Liffey Faces" which features a sequence of the Descent,when it started in Celbridge and finished @ Butt Bridge.He was a gentleman in his dealings with us. I was producer of the film made by the Guinness Film Society. It is in colour and runs for 30mins. It is coincidently being shown in a season at The Irish Film Institute,during January 2010.The film also features rowing,Liffey swim and the Ringsend Regatta etc.
May he Rest in Peace.

My Partner - Jim Evans and I, (Arthur Vitarelli) won the K2 division of the Descent in - I believe - 1972 or 1973 - I am interested in returning with my girlfriend (of 13 years) Laurie Baker). I do not want to return as a spectator - I would like Laurie and I to have a specific task - Example starting Line - finish line etc. I would like us to have official jackets - (I will pay for them). May we start a conversation - The Jackets would go to my kids ages 18 and 14 - Laurie is a highly competent "numbers" person - the third highest paid person as Swift Engineering - Arthur Vitarelli is the son of Arthur J Vitarelli - action (second Unit) director of Mary Poppins - the Love bugs etc. I can forward a full list of my "Wins" I am curently a coach - I could pay for the flight and jac kets , etc - behind the scenes if necassary. Lost paddles at Temple Mills I lost a set of Galasport paddles after capsizing at Temple Mills. The paddles are black in colour and have reflective tape at each end where the shaft meets the blade. If anyone comes across it txt me at 087 2838667 pls. Submitted By: Kieran O'Farrell

Liffey Descent 2007 Hello I am trying to locate the race number for Senior K2 race participants in 2007. The crew was Sean O'Neill and Graham Buggy - both Celbridge Paddlers competitors. Results error To whom it concerns, I took part in the Liffey Descent last Saturday. When I finished my race number (255) and time was printed on the notice board as 3:10:00. My friend Lorraine Beirne (389) finished at 3:09:05. We both finish 1min apart in the General purpose entery. I dont want to come across as a complete moan. But my time was published as 3:51:16 on the web. As you can imagine this is causing me abit of stress with the banter in the office and in the club. Junior Record Sean McCarthy and Adam Sweeney both won gold medals for Junior K2 in this year's Descent. They posted the fastest time ever for Juniors, but have not been credited with the record on the basis that there was not enough entrants in that category. Is this correct and if so, is it fair? 2009 Feedback HI there, Just two things i wanted to comment on. 1. Carpark - What an improvement! Would be great if you could get the kclub carpark next year,from every aspect i think it helped get the race started quickly and professionally. 2. As a competitor in the Mens Open singles i noticed an even larger amount of Wavehoppers this year,what is the rational behind putting them in GP? Should/Could they have there own class? thanks! Lost Action Cam 1st Liffey...loved it! But...lost action cam at Lucan. There should be some footage of my brother and I on it so if anyone has found it, please leave a message on here. Apologies to the diver at the top of Palmerstown for wacking you with my paddle. Submitted By: Graham Bittle
