Hi all,
one of those topics that reapears every now and again, but this time, after almost a year of work, we have completed a Feasibility study into creating a custom Canoe/Kayak Centre.
The main part includes an Artificial White Water Course and guess what - its feasible. We have the site(s), we have the water (a bit flat now, but we have the technology) and we have support from Monaghan County Council, ICU and CANI, now all we need is the money.
Don't Worry we havent forgotten about Sprint and Marathon Courses
It's still being printed and has to be signed off, but if you want a sneak preview, come to Conlons Pub in Ballybay on Saturday 23rd Sep night at 9pm and lets put the preasure on the Sports Council to help up build it.
If we're going ahead with this we need input, support and lobbying of politicians from all of you - you are the paddlers who NEED this.
The next stage is detailed plans and planning permission and funding applications - we need at least €30,000 to do this (we've already spent over €20,000) and if you dont get your speak in we wont know what feature you want.
Come along to Ballybay in Monaghan - its an hour north of Dublin Airport via the M1 (turn off at Ardee/Derry Exit) then the N2 and at Carrickmacross, or Castleblayney turn off to Ballybay.
Eoin
PS we still have places on the "Its a Knockout" Competition that Niall Power has put together for teams of 5 on Sat/Sun, plus our flat-water run on Sunday (see Alan Judges writeup on the river)
