What a pity to only get the results after 7pm Sunday nite..... All the hard slog of crossing fields sliding down muddy riverbanks ,getting cut and torn by brambles and nettles. Take loads of photos....and not be able to then match them up to send to the papers ............................. |

[/quote] Wolfman, The results were posted on this site just before 5pm Sunday, not after 7pm. However, a full set of printed results were given to the press at 5pm Saturday. Prior to that, results were posted on the noticeboard in the marquee throughout the afternoon. I don't know who you are or what your function was but if you were taking photographs for submission to the papers you should have contacted the organisers in advance and obtained a copy of the start list. This would have enabled you match race numbers to names. There is not much point complaining, anonymously, afterwards if you have not done your homework! Declan |

Just to correct u Declan...b4 leaving for the HarborMaster I checked the sites and I left at 18.50 with no sign of results I then rang and texted I.C.U Ceo. After decades of L/D I would think there is a more efficient way of disclosing results ie Bar Scanning Maybe thats why the race does,nt get any proper press coverage......!!! |

Have I misread something? I said the results were posted, on this site, on Sunday just before 5pm. I suspect you left for the 'HarborMaster' on Saturday evening. Yes, there are better ways of producing results. Unfortunately they all have a cost. The results were produced, this year, by myself, my brother and brother in law - all on a voluntary basis. Neither my brother or brother in law have ever been involved in canoeing. If you could secure an adequate suitable sponsor I have no doubt we could have the results on the web - live! In my opinion, the race does not get the coverage you desire because, whether you like it or not, canoeing is a minority sport in the eyes of the media. Declan

A big thanks to Declan, his family, Michael Scanlon and the ICU team for a great day on Saturday with all aspects of the event run very efficiently. At 63 years of age I was pleased to be able to complete my 29th Liffey AND get my time and placing in the marquee before I left TCD Boat Club on Saturday afternoon. The original contributor here is obviously a hurler on the ditch, so probably absconded to a comfy seat in Croke Park. God Bless the volunteers who have kept this race going in often adverse circumstances over the last 50 years (I speak from experience having been on ICU Council in the 1980s). I'll see you all above Straffan next year come rain, hail, Electric Picnic, or even another Kilkenny/Tipp confrontation. Sincerely in canoeing Mike |
